Pallet Park Under the Bridge

Client: Oslo Kommune

Date: Spring 2021

Objective: Our task was to transform an unused area beneath the bridge in Grønland into a versatile space for both children and adults, using pallets as the primary material. The client specifically requested the creation of seating areas and three enclosed ball fields, while also introducing abundant greenery to replace the former concrete-filled environment. Many of the peices were repourposed from other projects. I collaborated with five other carpenters to bring this project to life.

Approach: While the client provided a basic plan for the space, our team enjoyed creative freedom in shaping and constructing various areas. The challenge was to utilize pallets innovatively, constructing seating and ball fields, and incorporating substantial green spaces.

Project Details: With the guidance of the client's rough plan, our team of six carpenters worked collaboratively to revamp the space under the bridge in Grønland. The focus was on creating an inclusive environment for both recreation and community engagement, emphasizing the transformative use of pallets in construction. This was ment to be a temporary structure and a test for this location, the structures were only around for a summer before being replaced by more permeant solutions.
