Scale Model Auditorium for Film Installation
Date: Winter 2022
Client: Visual Artist
Design Freedom: Moderate — based on reference images provided by the artist, with technical and structural decisions handled by me.
For this project, I was commissioned to build a scale model auditorium that would serve as the screening space for a short film created by the artist. She provided a series of reference images showing the aesthetic and atmosphere she wanted to achieve, and together we shaped the final look of the miniature space.
One of the main requirements was that the entire model needed to be fully disassemblable, making it easy to pack, transport, and store between exhibitions. I designed the structure with modular panels and hidden connections so it could be taken apart and reassembled without damaging the painted surfaces.
Inside the model, I integrated LED lighting into the walls to match the visual mood the artist envisioned. I also handled the setup for the screen, sound system, and all necessary electronics, ensuring the installation worked smoothly as a self-contained miniature cinema.
The exterior footprint of the model was determined by the artist, while I developed the construction method, interior layout, and lighting integration to fit within those constraints.
